Everyone that has been a teenager knows what pimples, blackheads and acne is. Rarely is one ever fortunate to have escaped puberty and the teenage years without ever having had some form of these 3 skin conditions. All three of these are closely related to one another and they can and do occur together. They can also be treated together and very effectively with modern treatments.

Basically, blackheads and pimples are caused by blocked pores. Our body produces oil called sebum from the sebaceous glands and in the teenage years hormonal changes (also referred to as puberty) cause excess sebum or oil to be produced. This is different for each individual. For some it leaves their face looking greasy and wet all the time. For others it can be more minor. Regardless of the amount of sebum, what happens next is that the pores become clogged either with dirt (blackhead) or with excess oil and dirt (pimples).

Pimples are caused by bacteria getting into these blocked pores where they can thrive and cause a localized infection – the pimple, or raised pus filled bump. Pimples can be small and minor or they can look like mini volcanoes depending on their size and whether or not the afflicted person has picked at it. Picking at pimples especially by those that aren’t properly trained like an esthetician or dermatologist should be refrained from as it can lead to permanent scarring which will only become more prevalent as one ages.

Acne is just what most doctors attribute a broad or wider spread infected area of pimples, swollen nodules, postules, etc… Acne is much more severe and can be painful it can also lead to psychological conditions like depression caused by ones dislike for their appearance. What doctors and researchers have found lately is that good routines and regimens with skin cleaning and treatment can minimize and even cure oneself of pimples, blackheads and even acne.

The best regimen that doctors actually give to patients is to use a gentle cleansing product. Don’t use harsh soaps as they may work initially, but eventually they will dry out your skin and cause your body to produce more oil and eventually make the matter worse. Another good idea is to use protective moisturizers. Make sure they are noncomodogenic (non pore clogging). If they are not noncomodogenic then it will make the problem worse. A good moisturizer will keep your skin supple and moist and help it to heal and repair itself more quickly. It will also lessen the chances of scarring.

Another treatment which is used by numerous dermatologists and plastic surgeons worldwide in treating everything from pimples and blackheads to moderate acne is the TCA peel. TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) skin peels remove all oil from your face and any other skin areas where applied. They also clean out all pores on your face and kill any acne causing bacteria. This is why TCA peels are a favorite of dermatologists for use in treating acne and also in revealing younger, cleaner and fresher looking skin.
