Walk of Historical Kathmandu – Half Day

Singha Durbar ( Lion Palace ), Currently the Government of Nepal seats, built for private use by the Rana prime minister of Nepal in early 20th Century is lavish Palace spread over 50 hectres of land. Yes, it was the private residence of Chandra Shamsher Rana, and now houses the Government of Nepal with supreme power. The exterior and interior decoration of the Singha Durbar echoes the traditional architecture of Europe ( United Kingdom ). The palace in 1904, claimed to be the biggest and most luxurious palace in Asia and untill 1973 was the largest secretatariat in Asia.

Narayanhiti Palace, Now serves as a Museum where Nepal’s greatest tragidy on June 01, 2001 a Royal Massacre took place. It was the primary residence of the Nepal’s Monarch before the Republic was announced in May 2008 by the Peoples revolt and 10 years of peoples war. The palace was the scene of a gruesome tragedy – where the then King, Queen, Crown Prince and other family members numbering around 10 were killed in a massacre. Now, the place where the massacre happened were destroyed, but you can see historical relics, artifacts, sculptures and wildlife trophies along with the life of the Royal family how they used to live.

Garden of Dreams was first created by Chandra Shamsher and presented to his son Kaiser Shamsher, which is in the premises of Kaisher Mahal ( now houses the Ministry of Education and one of the largest library ). Later Kaisher himself with the great essence of extensive landscaped into a beautiful garden. Inspired by the Gardens of Europe he developed the garden as the most sophisticated private garden of the time and known as the Garden of Six Seasons. The garden was renovated during 2000 – 2007 AD by the Austrian support and now Kaisher Cafe served foods to the visitors in the best location and environment.

Itinerary:

Drive to Singhadurbar to start the great walk in the morning at 9 am.

Walk starts from the tour of Singhadurbar – The Government of Nepal’s Offices and Primeminister’s Office exterior parts since the interior is restricted to tour around.

The walk all the way to Narayanhiti Palace passing Nepal’s Military Headquarter, number of famous and most respected Hindu temples, Dharahara ( generally called as Bhimsen Tower), Clock tower, Ranipokhari and various monuments depicting the History of Nepal.

The walk is to understand metropolitan kathmandu in true sense how it looked in early days and now. The walk will not give you comfort but the amazing experience of the mismanagement of the capital city of Nepal. Enjoy your walk as it is now in Nepal.

Arrive Narayanhiti Palace Museum and tour of the musuem.

Attractions : The roayal throne, the place where the massacre happened, the rooms which were to be used by the State guest ( head of other state / First lady and family) / Meeting room of the royal family, other numbers of room. The museum is partly opened yet.

After the palace museum, walk across the road to the Garden of Dreams for the lunch. Enjoy your lunch in the best garden of Kathmandu.

Later on you will be transfered to your Hotel at around 2 Pm after the Lunch.
